Brenda's Biography

I am 54 years old, I have 2 daughters one is married and has three children, my  youngest daughter is 17 and has severe complex special needs. I lost my son in 1991 when an unsafe football goalpost fell on him and ruptured his heart. At the time I was told that is was a tragic accident, little did I know then that it was 100% preventable.

Over the years I heard of more and more needless deaths from unsecured football goals and campaigned as much as I could, the goals that killed my son weighed 200lbs. At least one child has died in Great Britain every year for the next 11 years after Jonathan was killed. Every time a death or accident happened the media contacted me and it was as though history was repeating itself, I felt sickened and helpless knowing that it could have been prevented if people would only listen to me.

I have had many meetings with the English Football Association, been interview numerous times on television and radio. Have the backing of famous footballers, The Queen and Prince William. I now have the support of UEFA (the european football association) who have produced a video on football goalpost safety, this should appear on their website in the next week or so. Unfortunately I approached FIFA but they didn't seem interested.

My time is taken up with my 17 year old daughter who was born 9 months after the death of my son. She has helped me to focus and distracted me from that terrible event. She is adorable but extremely hard work.

Last year I had two books published the first is titled: Goodnight Jonathan Goodmorning Laura and the second is A Football Goalpost killed My Son, both  are available from chipmunkapublishing.co.uk
