Most notably, in 2009, Ethan received the largest asbestos award and 50th largest jury verdict in the country when a jury awarded a former U.S. Navy machinist mate $35,333,209.00 as a result of being exposed to asbestos while working on equipment that the manufacturers knew, or should have known, was unreasonably dangerous. The jury also found that John Crane, Inc, a manufacturer of asbestos containing gaskets and packing, was 70% liable for its dangerous products and also found that it acted with malice, fraud or oppression when awarding punitive damages.
