I have been working in Pennsylvania's insurance world for fifteen years. In 1996, when I took the insurance agent/broker exams in Pennsylvania, I started down the path I continue to walk. I learned what limited and full tort meant. I learned why it was so important that my policyholders bought uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. I talked hundreds of people through auto accidents, some of which were their fault, and some of which were caused by others. Now, after law school, after having studied how to most effectively use insurance policies for Schmidt Kramer's clients benefit; and after having prosecuted various types of tort claims, I have a different appreciation of why our system needs personal injury attorneys. We stand between a system, inherently structured for the insurance companies' benefit, and regular people ill prepared to navigate it. A lawsuit is their final chance to make the system work for them...the ability to level the field of battle. This is why I do what I do.
In the past, I worked as an insurance agent/broker in Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania, which is in Union County. There I served the community as part of the United Way distribution committee, on the board of a local museum, and on the board of my church. In 2001 my wife and I bought the insurance agency, and owned it for six years. In our eighteen years of marriage, we had two children who are now eight and twelve. I helped coach baseball, soccer, and basketball teams. I went to law school at Widener University while running the agency, and after graduating cum laude, finally moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
I work in a law firm which includes six other attorneys. The firm practices only injury law on the side of the injured. Our clients have had injuries because of car accidents, injuries from defects in property, and injuries inflicted by doctors and nurses. We also work for those injured at work, and those whose medical problems force them to seek social security disability income.
