The founder of The Hastings Law Firm, Tom Hastings was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. He came from a large family. Tom’s father was an Indianapolis police officer for many years and his mother was a homemaker. He graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 1976, Wabash College in 1980, and Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis in 1983. Tom and his wife, Stephanie, have one daughter and reside in Indianapolis.
Because of his involvement in fire and explosion cases, Tom often provides pro bono representation and advice to fire victims and fire fighters. In addition, The Hastings Law Firm provides support to The People's Burn Foundation, a charitable organization, which assists burn survivors and their families.
Tom’s law practice is focused on personal injury and wrongful death claims arising from explosions and fires, construction accidents and semi/auto collisions. Since being admitted to the bar in 1983, Tom has tried over 180 jury trials and is a frequent lecturer on trial advocacy issues at continuing legal education seminars. He has also authored numerous articles for legal publications. Tom is on the Executive Committee and is a Sustaining Member of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association. Tom is also a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, Indianapolis Bar Association and the American Association of Justice.
